Is iPhone 12 Worth the Upgrade?

Traditionally, Apple launches newer iPhone models every year in September. Last year, for obvious reasons, the date was pushed back by a month. Nonetheless, the delay only contributed to the anticipatory excitement for the day the iPhone 12 lineup was finally revealed with all the usual razzmatazz.

Despite its apparent popularity, it’s not the most exclusive model and definitely does not have the same novelties as the iPhone 12 mini or the Pro Max. But regardless of this, we think it might be the most logical choice for most iPhone users.

In case you’re planning to upgrade this year and wondering if it’s worth the hype, we’ve reviewed some of its features to help you decide.

User-Friendly Yet Attractive Design

At first glance, our favorite bit is the size. While big screens are great for gaming, they're much harder to use with one hand. The dimensions have been reduced for iPhone 12, making it much more user-friendly.

The design itself takes inspiration from Apple's original iPhone 4 design, reverting to flat edges as opposed to round ones. The bezels are slightly slimmer, and the phone feels relatively light as compared to iPhone 12 Pro.

Pro Tip: Featuring brushed aluminum sides and sleek black glass, the phone feels solid but use a phone cover because the fingerprints are very obvious.

Features That Had Us Sold

Finally, we get 5G connectivity in iPhones—about time! Given the number of androids in the market with this feature, we honestly saw this one coming, but it has us excited, nonetheless.

There’s also a new system on chip—the Apple A14 bionic. This is definitely a performance booster, and we believe that it would make the phone more powerful without compromising battery life.

Another one of our favorites features is the OLED screen, which also flaunts 1200 nits of peak brightness for consuming HDR content. And speaking of HDR, the Dolby Vision feature is worth a mention as it makes recording and editing in HDR quite convenient—pretty handy for content creators!

Should You Get It?

While there is no perfect phone out there, we have to say the iPhone 12 does come pretty close to perfection. With the amazing battery life, the new MagSafe charger, and its stellar AR capabilities, amongst other great features, you're definitely getting what you paid for.

That being said, if you’re somebody who enjoys phones with bigger screens, this phone probably isn't for you—you'd be much better off with some of the older iPhone models. However, if you're looking to switch from Android to iPhone, there is probably no better option unless you want a telephoto lens or a lighter sensor.

Additionally, if you use other Apple products, the iPhone has a lot of great integrating options that could enhance your overall experience.

If you haven’t invested in iPhone 12 till now, you could always wait and see what Apple has in store for 2021. And in the meantime, you could get your old iPhone repaired from us if you’re located in Fayetteville or get a used phone to get by the next few months.
