3 Tips to Stop Phone Cracks from Spreading

Scratches are a very common occurrence when using our phones. The scratches could result from different sources, such as rubbing up against your car keys or being dropped from a distance. If the damage is significant enough, you should probably get your screen replaced. However, a screen replacement is quite expensive.

So, if you feel you can live with a few minor scratches and scuffs on your screen, at least temporarily, we’ll break down a few tips on how to stop them from spreading.

Don’t Put Pressure

It’s a natural response to want to rub the scratched area, in an attempt to check the damage or reinforce the scratched area. However, touching or rubbing the area can exacerbate the problem. Glass is more likely to shatter when pressure is exerted on it. Rubbing a cracked screen can increase the amount of pressure the glass faces, thereby increasing the cracked area of the screen.

Also, you can hurt yourself when touching or rubbing a cracked screen. A screen is usually made of safety glass, however, even safety glass can be dangerous when shattered. The best course of action when dealing with a screen crack is not to touch the crack or its surrounding area.

Glue a Temporary Seal Compound

If you feel you can live with the cracks on your smartphone, using a temporary seal will slow it from spreading. This temporary seal is made of a compound called cyanoacrylate.

Cover your entire screen with this compound and then make sure to wipe away any remaining amount. Before using your phone, let the glue dry. Bear in mind that this is a temporary fix and it’s only going to slow the pace at which the crack spreads. You’ll have to get the screen replaced eventually.

Apply a Screen Protector

Applying a tempered glass screen protector is another way of stopping the scratches from spreading. A glass screen protector would stop tiny glass pieces from falling out and hurting you. It would also act as an extra layer between your fingers and the screen, meaning when you touch it, there would be an extra layer of protection.

Even with taking all the precautions you can, like handling the crack with the utmost care, sealing it with a glue compound or applying a glass protector, the cracks will sooner or later spread. The only permanent way to fix this is to have the screen fully replaced.
